Play Therapy

Play is a child’s language and toy’s are their words - Gary Landreth

What is Play Therapy?

There are major differences between play therapy and everday play. Play therapy is a systemic and therapeutic approach that allows trained clinicians to communicate with children. Children communicate and express emotions through play.

It can be discouraging to children when the adults don’t understand what they are trying to communiicate. It can be challenging to put to words extreme emotional experiences. Through play children are able to master traumatic events by reliving and mastering the experience itself instead of just releasing the affect. They gain social, emotional, and developmental skills necessary to navigate life’s challenges.

Play is a tool that can help children feel better and learn to solve problems. I utilize metaphor and storytelling to communicate to children and help them learn important social and emotional skills.
